Kentucky adults on Medicaid could have access to a medical adult day care center in Huntington. Tri-State Lifecare Adult Day, overseen by Hospice of Huntington, cut the ribbon on West Virginia’s first such center on Friday.
Officials with the center said participants in the program will have access to socialization, activities and meals, as well as on-site medical services.
Melanie Hall, President and CEO of Hospice of Huntington, said the center provides services for seniors in need of additional care and supervision, as well as relief for the caregiver.
“It’s kind of designed to help with socialization and targeted to what their needs and interests are from a participant perspective, and then have some other wrap around services available. So, the caregiver gets a break or get some relief or some help, so they can attend to their own health or work or whatever, and the person they’re caring for gets a high level of care and a lot of those services they need on a daily basis,” said Hall.
Services at the center can be paid for through private pay, long-term care insurance, VA benefits or Medicaid. Right now, Medicaid waivers are only accepted for residents of West Virginia. However, Hall said she is working to secure access for those in Kentucky and Ohio.
“And I will begin working with Kentucky and Ohio for those and I just need to reach out to the folks in those areas to work those relationships so those participants can have Kentucky and Ohio comparable age and disable waiver payments arranged,” said Hall.
The center hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. More information on the center can be found by calling 304-399-0225, or online at tristatelifecare.org.
