Elementary school students in Rowan County will get to freshen up their hair cuts for the upcoming school year. Provided by the Rowan County Family Resource Center, elementary students can get a free haircut at Expressions Hair Salon on Wednesday, August 16.
Logan Adkins is the Family Resource Coordinator for Rodburn and Tilden Hogge Elementary Schools. She said the program has been very successful in the past, especially for lower-income students.
“With changes and COVID, it kind of fell off, so we’re really eager to start getting it back and running, and to provide this service for our students. It’s so important, for not only hygiene, obviously, but just for overall self-confidence,” said Adkins.
She said haircuts let students express their individuality, which is critical for their development.
“It lets them be themselves. It gives them that little extra boost- you know, maybe they’re excited to come to school on the first day so they can show off their haircut, or- it’s something to bring a smile to their faces and it gives them an opportunity that maybe they wouldn’t have without this program,” said Adkins.
The haircuts are first come, first serve, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Students are asked to arrive to the salon with dry hair. Expressions Hair Salon is located at 403 Flemingsburg Road in Morehead.
