WYMT-TV

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reminds motorists to watch for lane closures, delays, and traffic changes in state highway work zones.

In addition to daily road maintenance, and minor paving, the Highway District 9 Road Report includes the following construction, now through next week:

BOYD COUNTY

  • US 60 (Coalton to Cannonsburg): Road reconstruction continues along 4 miles of US 60 between I-64 at Coalton and the Cannonsburg KY 180 intersection. Watch for lane shifts, daily flagged traffic, narrow travel lanes, speed limit changes, blasting as needed. Expect delays. Detours: Princeland Drive is closed, and detoured to Princess Dr. All KY 5 traffic is detoured to Princess Drive intersection.
  • I-64: Contractors are applying thermoplastic striping along the edge and center lines on I-64 in Boyd County, weather permitting. Watch for mobile, temporary lane closures. Use caution.

CARTER COUNTY

  • KY 986 (Clifty Creek): Paving between the Elliott County line and Davis Drive (mile marker 13). One-lane, flagged traffic and delays during daytime work hours, approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • KY 396 (Brushy Creek): After KY 986 work is complete, on or about Monday, May 8, contractors will pave Brushy Creek Road from KY 2 (mile marker 0) north to KY 474. Crews will pave the full width of the road at one time, and the road will be temporarily closed to thru traffic where crews are working. Local traffic will be held for extended periods of time. Motorists should plan travel accordingly or reroute via KY 2 and KY 474.

FLEMING COUNTY

  • KY 111: Paving between KY 32 and KY 1515. Watch for one-lane, flagged traffic during daytime work hours, about 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Work should be completed this week.

LEWIS COUNTY

  • KY 1237 (Burtonville Road): Paving expected to begin Tuesday, May 2. Expect one-lane traffic controlled by flaggers for a couple of days.
  • KY 984 (Little Cabin Creek) – Paving between the Mason-Lewis county line and KY 57 expected to begin Thursday, May 4. Crews will pave the full width of the road at one time, and the road will be temporarily closed to thru traffic. • Coming Soon on KY 1149 (Town Branch): Contractors will be paving the highway near Vanceburg.

MASON COUNTY

  • KY 10: Once contractors are finished on KY 111 in Fleming County, crews will pave KY 10 between the AA Highway and Germantown. Work could start around May 8. Expect one-lane, flagged traffic in work areas.

ROWAN COUNTY

  • KY 1274 (Pretty Ridge): As weather permits, crews are digging up the roadway to perform cement stabilization. The road will be temporarily closed between Mountainside Drive near KY 801 and T. McKinney Road (milepoints 4.1 to 6.8) all day and all night through about 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 3. All thru traffic should detour. Weather could force schedule changes. Watch electronic message boards for updates.
  • Cimmaron Road: Contractors will be paving the roadway off KY 32 as the bridge replacement project nears completion.

Motorists should also watch for lane closures and flagged traffic where crews are performing daily maintenance activities such as paint striping, pothole patching, ditching, mowing, and other roadway repairs in District 9’s service area of Bath, Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas and Rowan counties.

In addition to providing real-time traffic information online at GoKY.ky.gov or via Waze on your smartphone, the Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 updates road work on social media at Facebook.com/KYTCDistrict9 and at Twitter.com/KYTCDistrict9.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.

WORK ZONE TIPS

  • Slow down, buckle up, and expect the unexpected.
  • Stay alert, and avoid distractions.
  • Don’t tailgate. Keep a safe braking distance between you and the vehicle ahead, and between construction workers and equipment.
  • Obey road crew flaggers, and pay attention to message boards and warning signs.
  • Plan ahead: Visit ky.gov or use Waze to see where road work is taking place. Or visit your highway district’s social media accounts. Find your district at https://transportation.ky.gov/DistrictPages.
