Singers sought for Community Choir Performance

Music on Market

Community and Morehead State University singers will begin rehearsals for their production of Handel’s Messiah this evening.

The oratorio is usually performed by Morehead singers every other year, and since last year’s performance was disrupted by the current COVID-19 pandemic, the directors thought the community had waited long enough to begin singing together again.

Doctor Greg Detweiler is the Director of Choral Studies at Morehead State University, and conductor for the production. He says Messiah is a great opportunity for community singers to rally around a shared project.

Detweiler says although rehearsals do begin this evening, singers can still join the group next week. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday evening from 8:00p.m.-9:00p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church. Singers will also be taking precautions against COVID-19, like masking and social distancing.

The performance is scheduled for Sunday, December 5th at 2:30p.m.
