Morehead State graduate student men's basketball athlete Tray Hollowell will be in New Orleans this weekend to take part in the 2022 Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship, scheduled for April 1-3 at The Sugar Mill.
Sixty-four players, who have elected to begin their professional careers, will represent all 32 Division I conferences and compete for their share of $150,000 – one of the largest prize purses at any FIBA 3x3 sanctioned events – by teaming up with other aspiring pro prospects from around the country. Each conference will be paired with another, forming 16 four-man rosters that will be separated into four pools.
Hollowell will be on the OVC/Summit League Team, dubbed the Summit Valley Oop'n. His squad will be in pool D along with the Big 12/Southland, Big 10/MAC and A-10/Big East foursomes. One of his teammates is a familiar face in Belmont senior center Nick Muszynski. He will also be joined by Rocky Kreuser of North Dakota State and Will Carius of Western Illinois. Their team has games scheduled for 7:40 and 10:20 p.m. ET Friday along with 1:50, 2:50 and 5:40 ET Saturday. The Saturday 5:40 game can be seen live on ESPNU, while others can be seen live on Twitter (@3x3UHoops).
Hollwell, a transfer from Wofford from Hopkinsville, Ky., drained 89 three-pointers this winter, the second highest single-season total in program history. In five seasons, he hit 275 career three-pointers. Hollowell also reached 1,000+ career points, finishing his collegiate action with 1,153 points. He averaged 10.4 points this season, helping Morehead State to its second straight 23-win record.
