Softball Set for 25 Home games for 2022 Season

MSU Athletics

The Morehead State softball team will travel to four tournaments and are scheduled to play 25 home games in 2022. Head Coach Samantha Jones will lead the Eagles in her fourth year at the helm in hopes of appearing in a fifth tournament at the end of the season.

The Eagles start off their season by traveling to Louisiana to compete in the Best on the Bayou Classic (Feb.11-13). They will face Louisiana Tech to open the tournament on February 11. The Eagles will also have the opportunity to face a more notable opponent during this tournament. Syracuse will also be making the long trip down to Louisiana providing the Eagles with an early test on the road. MSU will also square off against former OVC foe Jacksonville State.

Fast Forward to February 19 and the Eagles find themselves on the road and in a tournament again, this time traveling east to Boiling Springs North Carolina, where the Gardner Webb Bulldogs will host the Red and Black Classic. The Classic features East Tennessee State who sits second in its pre-season conference standings. The Eagles will have the opportunity to see them twice, once on February 19 and again on February 20. The Eagles return home to host their home opener against Shawnee State. The home opener will be a Tuesday (Feb. 22) doubleheader before heading on the road for a third time.

The Eagles will participate in the Evansville Tournament, hosted by the Evansville Purple Aces, on March 5-6. The tournament will include four opponents from three different conferences, giving the Eagles an early opportunity to build their resume.

It is tournament time once again as Morehead State will travel east to the Purple and Gold Invitational, hosted by East Carolina University, on March 12-13. This will conclude the Eagles' mid-season tournaments, as they are set to start conference play against Eastern Illinois March 19-20.

The Eagles' other non-conference games include four home double-headers and a road trip. Butler (Mar. 8), Dayton (Mar. 23), Kentucky State (Apr. 5), and Shawnee state (Apr. 13) will all make the trip to University Field while MSU will travel to Marshall (April. 20).

Morehead State is set to play 28 OVC contests, with 14 at home and 14 on the road.

The OVC Tournament will take place May 11-14 at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
