Allison Whitten Earns First OVC Defensive Player of the Week for the 2021 Season

Morehead State University

Morehead State junior libero Allison Whitten was tabbed the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in leading a stingy back row output in the Volleyball team's two wins over UT Martin this past weekend.

Whitten's award is the sixth weekly honor for the volleyball program during the fall 2021 season and her first of the year.

The Simpsonville, S.C., native averaged more than 6.0 digs per set in the Eagles' victories. On Friday, she led all players with 21 scoops (7.0 per set) in the straight-set win. She returned on Saturday with 16 more (5.1 per set) digs.

Whitten also received 32 serves on the weekend, with only one service error.

She ranks fourth in the league with 4.8 digs per set and 371 total digs but in conference matchups only, she averages 5.3 to rank third among the league's top liberos.

Morehead State takes to the road this weekend for a pair of OVC contests at Eastern Illinois.
