Football Wins Another Shootout, Picking Up 38-30 Road Win at Presbyterian

MSU Athletics

Senior running back Issiah Ageuro rushed for a season-high 113 yards and scored two touchdowns, while also grinding out tough yardage in the waning moments of the game to keep possession, as the Morehead State football team won a shootout at Presbyterian Saturday, 38-30.

The Eagles staked themselves to a 24-6 halftime lead and then endured the unorthodox style Presbyterian employs as the Blue Hose mounted a rally. But, the Eagles were able to hold them off to improve to 2-0 in the PFL for the first time since head coach Rob Tenyer's first year in 2013.

MSU generated 443 total offensive yards and came up with four turnovers on defense, including a season-high three interceptions off PC QB Ren Hefley, who ended up throwing a PC record 80 passes and completing 50 of them for 551 yards.

EagLe QB Mark Pappas tossed a pair of touchdowns himself and completed 26 passes for 313 yards. Tight end Matt DeBlaiso caught his first career TD as an Eagle, while wideout Thomas Campbell-Clay hauled in the other score.

On defense, Khiyree Keith, Cameron Barrett and Tyler Noble all picked off passes, while Issiah Tigler came up with a fumble recovery.

MSU went on top 24-6 on the strength of an Andrew Foster field goal, rushing touchdowns from Earl Stoudemire and Aguero and DeBlaiso's TD catch.

Presbyterian crept to within 24-14 in the third quarter before Campbell-Clay tip-toed just acorss the goal line on a six-yard pass from Pappas with 14:54 left. Hefley threw a 92-yard bomb to Jaylen Witcher at the 6:14 mark to make it 31-22 before Aguero finished off a drive with another one-yard TD push at 3:31. The Blue Hose weren't done however, as Hefley sent a 34-yard score into the end zone.

MSU had the ball needing only to run out the clock, and Aguero rushed for two first downs and 31 yards in the final 1:05 to ice the win.

Cornerback Jelani-Ray Garvin totaled a team (and career) high 10 tackles.

Morehead State comes home next weekend to host Butler for Homecoming. Kick-off is at 3 p.m. ET.
