MSU Athletics

Having a solid year on the football field and a solid career in the classroom can indeed earn one a prestigious honor.

Morehead State senior linebacker Cameron Barrett is one of just 54 student-athletes who have earned spots on the 2021 Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team. He is one of only five selected among the 54 from the Pioneer Football League.

Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees were required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. They must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution. They also must have participated in 50 percent (50%) of the games played at their designated position.

Barrett, from Dayton, Ky., has a 3.83 GPA in marketing. He finished with 46 tackles in the 2021 spring season, including four for losses. His total stops ranked second on the team. Barrett also collected two interceptions and recovered a fumble. He returned one pick-off 75 yards for a touchdown at Butler. Barrett was named Honorable Mention All-PFL and was also a First-Team Academic All-PFL selection.

In 2019 Barrett was named to the Academic All-District II Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
