For the First Time Since 2013, Volleyball Returns to the Postseason

MSU Athletics

For the first time in the event's history 10 season history, the Ohio Valley Conference received an at-large bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship as Morehead State volleyball accepted a bid to the 32-team event.

The Eagles' appearance in the tournament marks Morehead State's second overall trip to the NIVC and the first since the event's reprisal following the 2017 season. Morehead State last appeared in the NIVC in 1993, competing in four matches in Kansas City, Mo. With its 2019 NIVC appearance, the Eagles tied Murray State as the OVC program with the most NIVC appearances while also being the first OVC team to appear in the tournament since 2017 (SIUE).

An appearance in the NIVC marks Morehead State's first trip to the postseason since qualifying for the NCAA Tournament in 2013.

Morehead State (23-9) opens the 2019 NIVC facing High Point (20-12) in the tournament's opening round. The Eagles and Panthers are the opening match of a pod that also features host Liberty (19-11) and LaSalle (15-13). The pod takes place at the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va., featuring matches on Dec. 7-8.

First serve for the Eagles' NIVC opening-round matchup is set for 4:30 p.m. ET Saturday.
