Women's Basketball Takes Care of Business against Midway (Ky.)

Six players achieved double-digit scoring totals as Morehead State Women's Basketball defeated Midway (Ky.) 107-55 on Tuesday evening at Johnson Arena in the final game of the Eagle Invitational Presented by Downtown BP of Morehead.

"I thought our girls came out very ready and focused," said MSU head coach Greg Todd. "I feel like offensively we have been improving with each game and tonight we executed well and our defense played well once again."

Offensively, Morehead State made nearly 50% of its shots from the field with 38-of-78 (.487) shots falling.

Freshman guard Tomiyah Alford and junior guard Alyssa Nieves led the Eagles with 20 points. Nieves, who is in her first season at Morehead State after transferring from South Georgia Tech, finished the game 6-of-11 from three-point range.

Freshman Ariel Kirkwood finished one rebounds shy of poster her second consecutive double-double as she scored 16 points while also pulling down nine rebounds and blocking five shots.

Senior forward Jaleesa Avery (13), senior forward Orlandra Humphries (12), and junior guard Lakeita Chappel (10) rounded out the six double-digit scorers for the Eagles.

Midway, which entered the game averaging 93.3 points per game on a three-game winning streak, were held a season-low 55 points on 17-of-58 (.293) shooting.

The visitors were paced by Leisa Butler and Allyson Callahan with 10 points. Callahan, who is a native of Morehead, knocked down a team-best four shots from the field.

Morehead State improves its record to 2-2 overall for the 2019-20 season with the win.

Next up, the Eagles will travel to Lexington, Ky., on Thursday to face No. 13 Kentucky at Memorial Coliseum at 7:00 p.m. ET.
