Volleyball's Jaime Gordon Becomes Morehead State University's Winningest Coach

MSU Athletics

With Morehead State volleyball's win over Tennessee Tech Saturday, head coach Jaime Gordon has surpassed former Morehead State baseball head coach Steve Hamilton to become the winningest head coach in Morehead State University's history.

The win is the 306th of Gordon's illustrious 17-year career leading the Eagles volleyball program, which began in 2003. Under his leadership, Morehead State has claimed seven Ohio Valley Conference Regular Season and two OVC Tournament titles.

On the road to becoming the University's winningest coach, Gordon has collected or overseen numerous personal and program milestones during his tenure as head coach. Notable accomplishments include the program's 700th, 800th, 900th, and 950th overall victories and his own 280th victory at Morehead State, making him the winningest head volleyball coach in program history. Additionally, by the end of next season, Gordon can lead the program to its 1,000th overall victory, becoming the first team in OVC history to eclipse the century mark in victories.

Additionally, Gordon himself has thrice been named OVC Coach of the Year, doing so in his first season in 2003, 2010, and 2012.

In 17 seasons at the helm, Gordon has seen 70 players don Morehead State's blue and gold. Under his direction, those Eagles have accomplished:

•             19 First Team All-OVC Honorees

•             13 OVC All-Tournament Team Members

•             Nine OVC All-Newcomer Honorees

•             Nine CoSIDA Academic All-District Honorees

•             Six Second Team All-OVC Honorees

•             Six AVCA All-Region Honorees

•             Four OVC Freshmen of the Year

•             Three AVCA All-Americans

•             Three OVC Players of the Year

•             Two OVC Tournament Most Valuable Players

•             One OVC Defensive Player of the Year

•             One CoSIDA Academic All-American

In 2019, Gordon also saw one of his former players-All-American Setter Katelyn (Barbour) Sallee-inducted into Morehead State's Athletic Hall of Fame. She became the 10th former volleyball Eagle to be inducted and the first from Gordon's time as head coach.

In addition to his players' success on the court, Gordon's players have also succeeded off the court and in the classroom. His teams have collected eight OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards while also garnering 12-straight AVCA Team Academic Awards. Morehead State has also achieved eight consecutive APR public recognitions from the NCAA.
