Familiarity Reigns as Men's Golf Announces 2019-20 Schedule

MSU Athletics

Making a return to nine familiar golf courses this year, Morehead State men's golf has finalized its 2019-20 slate. Twelve total events, including the 2020 Ohio Valley Golf Championships, comprise the slate.

"This schedule provides us the opportunity to play some great courses against quality competition," said head coach Matthew Martin. "Our fall schedule keeps us pretty close to home, but we venture to all parts of the country for the spring. We will be ready to compete for an OVC Championship when April rolls around."

The fall portion of the Eagles' schedule includes five events, each of which Morehead State competed in last fall. For the fourth straight season, Morehead State will compete in the EKU Raising Cane's Intercollegiate, an event that saw the Eagles finish third last season. The two-day event tees off from the University Club at Arlington in Richmond, Ky. on Sep. 14-15.

During the season's second week (Sep. 23-24), Morehead State remains in Kentucky, competing at the NKU Fall Classic. The two-day event moves to Lassing Pointe Golf Course in Union, Ky. after calling Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio home last year. As a team, Morehead State will compete in the event for the first time since 2017-18, after sending individuals last season.

With the team's third event of the fall, Morehead State returns to a tournament that has been very good to the Eagles over the last two seasons, seeing a pair of top-three finishes, including a runner-up placement last year. The Eagles take on the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, a two-day event held at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, N.C. on Sep. 30 and Oct. 1. Last season, Morehead State established a set of program-lows en route to a second-place finish.

The fall portion of the schedule concludes in mid-to-late October with another pair of familiar tournaments. Morehead State competes at the Elon Phoenix Invitational (Oct. 14-15) at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C. and the Musketeers Classic (Oct. 21-22) at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. The events mark return trips for the Eagles as the two events served as the wrap up to the fall portion of the schedule last season.

Much like the fall portion of the schedule, the spring portion also includes a familiar feel as Morehead State will make repeat trips to four different events. The spring opens at the Weston Hills Golf Club in Weston, Fla. for the George Washington Presidents' Day Match Play event (Feb. 17-18). The event marks the program's second-consecutive spring opening with a match play event.

March 8-10 sees the Eagles face the first of two Tiger Invitationals during the spring schedules as the team heads to RTJ Grand National in Opelika, Ala. to compete in Auburn's Tiger Invitational presented by Jason Dufner. The following week, Morehead State heads to the Smokey Mountains to compete in the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn. The three-day event hosted by Tennessee Tech takes place March 15-17.

Morehead State wraps up the month of March with a trip west, competing at the Battle at Boulder Creek (March 23-24) at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The event marks the team's first trip west since 2017-18 when the Eagles competed at the Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah.

April begins with the final of the two Tiger Invitationals, this time the Missouri Tiger Invitational. The two-day event takes place April 6-7 at the Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. The regular-season schedule wraps up two weeks later (April 19-20) at the Wright State Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio.

The 2020 OVC Championship once again takes place on the Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. This season's iteration of the postseason takes place April 26-28 from Muscle Shoals, Ala., marking the seventh-consecutive season the OVC Championship has called the Shoals home.
