Crockett's 28 Leads Women's Basketball to Exhibition Win Over Shawnee State

Behind a 28-point outing by Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference senior guard Miranda Crockett, the Morehead State women's basketball team defeated Shawnee State (Ohio) 82-70 in an exhibition on Monday evening at Johnson Arena.

Crockett was 11-for-17 (.647) from the field and led all scorers in the game. The Martinsville, Va., native also had a game-high nine assists.

Overall Morehead State shot 33-of-70 (.471) from the field and was 11-of-15 (.733) from the free throw stripe.

"It was a good exhibition game for us," said head coach Greg Todd. "We did some good things but we just have so many new faces and as team we need to continue to grow together and build on the things we did well tonight."

One of the familiar faces, senior forward Tierra McGowan, posted a double-double in the game after scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Shawnee State, who entered the game with a 2-0 mark and averaging 91 points per game, was held 21 points below its' season average. The Bears, who led by a point at the end of the first quarter, were led by Ashton Lovely and Bailey Cummins who both dropped in 18 points apiece.

The Eagles will begin their 2018-19 regular season on the road on November 9 at North Carolina A&T. The game against the 2017-18 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Champion Aggies will tipoff at 5:30 p.m. ET from the Ellis F. Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro N.C.
