Morehead State senior leftfielder Nick Newell has been named Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week. He also earned the same honor on Feb. 23.
Newell hit .522 (12-for-23) with two runs scored, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, a .522 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage as Morehead State compiled a 4-1 record last week. In the process, he extended his hitting streak to 18 games.
In the Eagles' three-game sweep of OVC foe SIU Edwardsville, Newell hit .600 (9-for-15) with 11 RBI. His three-run home run in the eighth inning of the final game of that series clinched the sweep for MSU.
Morehead State has a mid-week series at Ohio State looming before a trip to Austin Peay this weekend. The Tuesday and Wednesday contests at OSU are both slated for 6:35 p.m. ET first pitches.
