Jones and McKee Earn OVC Honors

MSU Athletics

Morehead State senior guard Almesha Jones and freshman forward Eriel McKee have earned Ohio Valley Conference weekly accolades.

Jones was named the league's official Player of the Week and also earned the conference's standout player honor from College Sports Madness. McKee was tabbed OVC Freshman of the Week.

Jones, a Cincinnati native, led the Eagles to a pair of road wins at Norfolk State and George Mason to open the 2014-15 season. She averaged 19.5 points, 7.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals. Jones had 19 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals in the opener at NSU. She followed that up with 20 points, seven assists and four rebounds in just less than 40 minutes on the floor versus GMU. For the week, she shot 48 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.

A Lawrenceburg, Ky., product, McKee made her collegiate debut at NSU and led the team with 20 points on 7-of-12 from the floor. She also paced the squad with seven rebounds and swiped three steals. It was the first double-digit scoring effort for an MSU freshman appearing in her first collegiate game since 2006-07.

Morehead State will face No. 13 Kentucky on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. and then travel to Indiana on Friday at 7 p.m. The home opener is set for Nov. 24 versus Brescia (Ky.) at 6 p.m.
