The No. 18 Morehead State rifle team competed on Saturday (Nov. 8) at the Akron Zippy Open and Sunday at the Ohio State Buckeye Open. The Eagles highlighted their weekend action by posting a school-record aggregate score of 4,584 at OSU's event.

MSU topped the previous school record of 4,580, set in a dual match against UT Martin on Oct. 27, 2012. Sunday's figure came from a 2,275 smallbore score and 2,309 air rifle mark. The event continues next weekend when No. 10 OSU, Nevada, UTEP and TCU shoot.

Senior Ethan Cole led Morehead State at the Wylie Range in Columbus with an aggregate score of 1,161. He posted a season-high 585 in air rifle, to go along with a team-best 576 in smallbore. Freshman Dan Hall added a season-best 1,146 in the aggregate column.

Morehead State finished third out of three squads at Akron's event with an aggregate score of 4,563. The Eagles turned in a 2,282 smallbore score and 2,281 air rifle mark. The No. 9 Zips won the tri-match with a 4,623, while No. 11 Memphis placed second with a 4,612.

Cole also paced the Eagles in the weekend opener at the Pinn Shooting Range in Akron with an aggregate score of 1,161. He was MSU's best finisher in smallbore with a 579 and air rifle with a 582. His smallbore standing produced a 187, which was a career best.

Morehead State closes out its first semester schedule on Saturday when it hosts No. 3 Jacksonville State and Virginia Military Institute. All home matches take place at the Button Rifle Range on MSU's campus.
