Eagle Football to Support Coach to Cure MD on Oct. 4

MSU Athletics

Morehead State's football coaches will participate in Coach to Cure MD when the Eagles host Pioneer Football League opponent Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.

Coach to Cure MD is a national game-day charity project, which is supported by the American Football Coaches Association. The program raises awareness and money to fund research for the most common fatal childhood genetic disorder, Duchenne ("doo-shin") muscular dystrophy.

"Our staff is thrilled to participate in this wonderful event once again," Head Coach Rob Tenyer said. "We take football very seriously around here, but muscular dystrophy is more important than a game. So many families are affected, and we feel it is vital to support this cause to help those afflicted."

Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a progressive muscle disorder that causes loss of muscle function and dependence. One in approximately every 3,500 children are affected, and life expectancy for those individuals is only in the 20s. Research to find a cure is ongoing at many colleges.

Fans can make a $5 donation by texting the word "CURE" to 90999. Donations of any dollar amount can also be made on-line at CoachtoCureMD.org. Individuals wanting to support the cause are encouraged to spread the word on social media and use the hash tag #TackleDuchenne on Twitter.

"Our coaches look forward to participating in Coach to Cure MD every year," Executive Director of the American Football Coaches Association Grant Teaff said. "It is uplifting to see the increased fundraising totals each year, knowing this effort is truly making a difference in advancing Duchenne MD research."

Morehead State's coaches will wear a Coach to Cure MD patch on the sidelines during the contest. More than 550 college football programs and 10,000 coaches participated in 2013. The program has raised more than $1 million over the past five years.

Morehead State will also spread the word via the game webcast on the Ohio Valley Conference Digital Network, broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network, social media platforms and public address announcements.
