Preston Named OVC Tennis Player Of The Week

MSU Athletics

Morehead State sophomore Briar Preston has been selected the Ohio Valley Conference Female Tennis Player of the Week.

Last week, Preston improved her singles win streak to five at the No. 1 position and brought her doubles win streak to three at No. 1 as well.

The Auckland, New Zealand native is now 4-0 in OVC play in singles and 3-1 in the league in doubles. Last week Preston only lost two games in singles, defeating Southeast Missouri's Valeriia Kashina and UT Martin's Ivon Simic by identical 6-1, 6-0 totals.

She led the Eagles to a 5-2 win at UT Martin, which was head coach Kevin Fulton's first victory over the Skyhawks during his tenure (2006-present). Teaming up with her new partner in doubles, junior Alex Tachovsky, Preston had an 8-5 win at Southeast Missouri and an 8-3 win at UT Martin. Preston and Tachovsky are now 3-1 as a doubles team, and Preston has an 8-7 record at the No. 1 doubles spot this season.

Owning a 10-4 singles record this spring, Preston's only losses have come against opponents of nationally ranked top-75 teams. She was 7-0 in singles this past fall, which now gives her a 17-4 overall singles scorecard for 2013-14.

Morehead State travels to Nashville this weekend where it is scheduled to face Belmont Saturday and Tennessee State Sunday.
