Morehead State junior utility player Kane Sweeney, who ranked second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a .376 batting average last season, has been named to the Preseason All-OVC team.
Sweeney was a second-team selection following a 2013 campaign that saw him tally 74 hits, 31 runs, 13 doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI in 53 starts. The Millstadt, Ill., native reached base in all but two games, including a streak of 41 straight games.
"I'm very happy for Kane, and he is certainly deserving of the honor," Head Coach Mike McGuire said. "He was our most consistent hitter last season, and we expect more of the same this year."
The 2014 season gets underway next Friday, Feb. 14, when the Eagles travel to Spartanburg, S.C., for the USC Upstate invitational.
