Kentucky Mudfest Announces Trail Run Series

I Run Far

A new series of running events in 2015 will take runners from the concrete into the woods.

The Buffalo Trace Trail Run Series will be staged at the former location of Big Rock Off Road Park on Stonelick Road in eastern Mason County.

The trail series is organized by Kentucky Mudfest Sports and Recreation, which stages a Filthy 5K run and obstacle course in September at the same property.

Owner Duke Ford said the Buffalo Trace Trail Run Series does not include an obstacle course and offers three different runs: a 5K on May 2; a 10K on June 6; and a 15K on July 11.

Each run will start at the Stonelick property and move west to the Big Zipper Zip Line site off Taylor Mill Road.  Ford said the courses are along existing trails and areas without trails.

"None of the trails will be extreme, like the straight up and down of Tough Mudder, it's just a fun run through the woods," Ford said. "This is a very relaxed, fun kind of thing."

In addition to offering runners a new challenge, proceeds from each Trail Series run will benefit a charity. Proceeds from the 2014 Kentucky Mudfest benefited the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky in the amount of $3,000.

Registration for the Buffalo Trace Trail Run Series can be found at the Kentucky Mudfest Facebook page.

Each event is $30 which includes a t-shirt and medal. If participants want to sign up for two or more of the runs, a discount is offered.

The 2015 Kentucky Mudfest Filthy 5K is scheduled for Sept. 12 and includes a 3.1 mile obstacle course.
