The race is on for the 27th Senate District seat in Kentucky.
The special election will be held on March 3 in Bourbon, Fleming, Harrison, Lewis, Mason, Nicholas, Robertson, and Rowan counties to determine who will serve them in the Kentucky Senate.
Over the weekend, Democrat leaders met in Vanceberg and Republican party leaders met in Flemingsburg where they selected candidates for the seat vacated when Walter Blevins resigned to take a new position as Rowan County judge-executive.
Democrats chose Maysville attorney Kelly Caudill as their candidate.
“I am deeply honored and appreciative of the enthusiastic support given me by my fellow Democrats in the 27th district. I will work tirelessly to earn the support and trust of every voter of the 27th Senatorial District,” said Caudill after earning the nomination.
“As State Senator I will work with our local and state officials to bring more jobs and investments to our region, expand education funding and give our teachers the resources they need to succeed in our classrooms, and look to bring our communities together to fight the scourge of drug abuse that is devastating our communities,” Caudill added.
Republicans chose Millersburg attorney and cattle farmer, Steve West as their candidate.
“I really appreciate the Republican committee members’ support and thank them for nominating me for this position,” West said after learning of his nomination.
“I look forward to working with them and running a strong campaign in the 27th district. It would be an absolute honor to represent the people of this district and join a strong majority in the Kentucky Senate,” West added.
