Kentucky Gun Permit Bill

Kentucky sheriffs would have to issue gun permits to lawfully-abiding citizens who have purchased a firearm and passed federal background checks, under a bill approved Thursday in the Senate’s Public Protection Committee. The measure is backed by the National Rifle Association.

Daniel Carey is a lobbyist for the NRA. Under current Kentucky law, Carey says, sheriffs can withhold such permits at their own discretion. If Senate Bill 232 becomes law, they would have to approve the permits within 15 days, if there’s no legal reason for not doing so…

Carey says the bill would make the permitting process uniform for all Kentucky counties.
