Kentucky Bill Would Allow Duo Candidacy

NPR

A bill seeking to ensure a federal office holder in Kentucky can run for re-election and president of the United States at the same time is on its way to the full Senate.

The measure is being sponsored by Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer.  It's intended to clear the way for Kentucky U.S. Senator Rand Paul's expected run for the presidency.

"I believe, as he does, that he can run for the senate and president right now, but I wanted to file this bill to give a little clarity to the situation." –Damon Thayer.

The measure easily passed the Senate State and Local Government Committee.  Thayer says the bill would not only pertain to Paul's candidacy but could also impact other future races.
