Closed Door Tax Reform Meetings Proposed

Kentucky House Republicans

Kentucky Republican House Floor Leader Jeff Hoover says lawmakers must meet behind closed doors to discuss tax reform. Hoover has called for a committee of House and Senate leadership to reach a consensus on parts of Gov. Steve Beshear’s recently-introduced tax reform plan.

Hoover says the meetings will be more efficient if they're private and not subject to state open meetings laws.

“I’m not so much worried about immediate political consequences if you have an open meeting, you know, to start with. My concern is all the different groups that are affected based on what the governor has proposed, it would be difficult to get through all of that in a regular open meeting,” says Hoover.

Hoover believes whatever plan is crafted behind closed doors will make its way into a legislative committee.
