Wendell Berry Farming Program Hosts Open House

Wendall Berry Farming Program

The Wendell Berry Farming Program of Sterling College is hosting On-Farm Recruitment Days in Henry County, Kentucky on Friday, July 9 (from 1:00pm-4:00pm) and on Saturday, July 10 (from 9:00am-12:00pm).

The event is open to all prospective applicants. Farmers, aspiring farmers, and agricultural educators are also especially encouraged to attend.

The Wendell Berry Farming Program is accepting applications until August 1, 2021 for its second 12-student cohort. This tuition-free, two-year, farmer training program is based entirely in Henry County, Kentucky. Students who have previously earned at least 60-credit hours of accredited college coursework may apply. Applicants who have already earned Associate or Bachelor’s degrees are eligible to apply, as well.

Through the Wendell Berry Farming Program, accepted students complete their junior and senior years of college credit to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.

The curriculum provides a hands-on education linking the liberal arts to agriculture, forestry, draft animal and combustion power, and good land stewardship. Connections to qualified students who want to make a life of farming will help us reach those applicants who would thrive in this unique program opportunity.

Information and demonstration sessions will be held at The Berry Center Farm. Guests will spend time with recent alumni, take a walking tour of the farm, and hear from our faculty as they provide a glimpse into the scope of coursework at the WBFP.
