Teachers interested in working with professional artists to offer hands-on arts experiences to their students can apply for funding support through the Kentucky Arts Council's Teaching Art Together grant. The deadline to apply is Oct. 1.
The Teaching Art Together grant gives Kentucky teachers the opportunity to collaborate with practicing, professional artists from the arts council's Teaching Artist Directory to design and implement one- to four-week residencies. These residencies can cover a multitude of topics and mediums but are established to help teachers incorporate arts into the curriculum long after the residency has ended.
"Teaching Art Together grants allow Kentucky teachers the opportunity to meet arts and humanities requirements set forth in the program review," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "These residencies are valuable in many ways. Teachers and students alike learn new skills, all while meeting goals of learning set forth through the program review. The arts council is proud to support Kentucky educators through this program."
The Teaching Art Together grant guidelines and application can be found on the arts council website. For more information about applying, contact Jean St. John, arts education director, at 502-564-8110, ext. 486.
The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, fosters environments for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Kentucky Arts Council funding is provided by the Kentucky General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts.
