Gov. Beshear Signs Heroin Legislation

CBS

Governor Steve Beshear is praising what he calls a robust and comprehensive new law that attacks the spectrum of heroin abuse in Kentucky.

The bill was passed late Tuesday night (March 24) by the General Assembly.

Beshear says he signed it immediately because Kentucky can’t wait any longer for the tools it provides.       He says the measure punishes traffickers, supports addiction treatment and protects public health.

“We’re coming after you, we’re gonna’ put you out of business and we’re gonna’ put you in jail. The next message goes to the thousands of Kentuckians who are addicted to this terrible drug. We’re coming to help you. Work with us and help us to help you get on the road to recovery.”

The governor calls heroin “a multi-dimensional monster” and the fight against it demands an array of tactics.
