Fayette Prosecutor Criticizes AG Eric Holder

Fayette County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ray Larson is blasting U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for Holder’s recent policy initiative regarding low-level drug offenders. The AG said imprisoning people who’ve committed non-violent crimes involving drugs is costly and causing overcrowding in federal lockups. Holder suggested there are better ways to deal with such cases.

Larson is a Democrat who claims the attorney general really has an ulterior motive. He spoke Monday on KET’s “Kentucky Tonight”…

"What he wanted to do was attack mandatory minimum sentences...so basically what he says is 'U.S. Attorneys...ignore the law'. That's what he's doing and there is a pattern of that with this guy, Eric Holder. I don't think anybody in the law-enforcement community has much respect for him."

Larson says nearly all drug offenders are prosecuted locally anyway. Because of that, he interprets Holder’s message to U.S. attorneys as being, “Don’t prosecute cases that you’re not prosecuting now”.
