Community Advisory Board Meeting Minutes May 13, 2015

The meeting started at 6:05pm at the Morehead State Public Radio (MSPR) office.

Mary Caric, MSPR Advisory Board (CAB) Chair welcomed returning members.

Old Business
Minutes of the February 11, 2015 meeting were reviewed. Mary Caric made the motion to approve the minutes and Nona Camuel seconded. The motion passed.

Paul Hitchcock presented  the Quarterly report for January-March of 2015. Nona Camuel asked about underwriting, in-kind donations and trade for services. Paul stated the quarter had been busy and difficult to get donations due to the winter weather. Mary made a motion to pass the quarterly review and Colby Thatcher seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Paul updated the CAB on the Radio Eye project. The equipment has been installed and Radio Eye is close to being able to start the programming in Eastern, Kentucky. Radio Eye will host an open host at the Rowan County Library this summer.

Diversity Report 2015- Paul discussed the report for 2014 and major items reviewed.  Nona suggested a bi-lingual segment for 1 hour a month, including information about the Spanish culture. Nona also suggested developing a flyer to promote the new program. The new program will air the 3rd Friday of each month at 7:00pm. Paul stated that he would work on the flyer. Paul will seek a follow-up from Charles Hollaway (MSU employee) to describe the meeting and MSPR needs. Nona accepted the report and Mary seconded the motion. The motion passed.

WMKY 50th Anniversary is June 15. Paul stated that  there will not be an open house, but will host a readers notebook on June 15. A press release will be issued to commemorate the 50th Anniversary.

New Business

Black Bear shared an app that he has helped create discussing suicide rates, issues and where to seek help for MSU students. The app was viewed by the CAB members and the Behavioral Health issues of college students. Colby stated that she will share the app with Pathways.

MSPR will have an audit next week. Paul will be in charge of answering questions about the audit and will report on the findings next meeting.

Paul Hitchcock discussed changes to programs and how changing the times certain programs run is a better use of the program and will save the station money for programming. World Café will be moving to 7:00pm-9:00pm with a repeat of World at 9:00pm and Classical music at 10:00pm. The classical music section is currently starting at midnight. The program with Jennifer Reis, “Between the Covers” has been cancelled. Mary made the motion to accept the changes to programming and Nona seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Closing Comments

The next quarterly CAB meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at 6:00pm in MSPR’s studios.

With no further business to discuss, the CAB was adjourned at 6:47pm.
