Federal Mogul has had a facility in Maysville since 1993. The city nearly lost the Federal Mogul plant in 1999, but local officials were able to talk the company into keeping it open. The facility’s closure will reportedly cost Maysville an estimated $100,000 in payroll tax revenue.

Weaver says the competition for skilled, higher-paying, production jobs has become more intense since the North American Free Trade Agreement went into effect in 1994. He says his office is now concentrating on helping smaller, existing manufacturers stay in business and expand their facilities.
