Kentucky Aviation Seeks Support

Airport Data

Kentucky’s aviation industry is looking for some tax relief.   Airport representatives came to Frankfort today for National Aviation Day.   Kentucky Aviation Association President Rob Barnett says Kentucky’s aviation industry lags behind its neighbors and needs state assistance.

“We have surrounding state’s that border Kentucky that have a more attractive aviation incentive program such as lower taxes, lower fuel taxes, things like that, and we want to bring the state of Kentucky into light and competitive, if you will, with our surrounding states.” –Rob Barnett

The head of the Kentucky Aviation Association thinks the Commonwealth’s 60th public airport should be near Sparta.  By building another airport in northern Kentucky, Barnett says they can help the Kentucky Speedway and NASCAR.  He says NASCAR officials tell him track crowds are growing.

“They’re telling me yes we are seeing an improvement. We’re seeing a lot more people in the stands so, I really think that airport in the northern sector is probably primarily and priority, I should say for the state of Kentucky,” added Barnett.

Barnett says the aviation industry is already building an agenda for next January’s regular legislative session.
