On a windy Saturday morning, over 80 people from different parts of the United States participated in the 14th annual Buffalo Trails MultiSport Racing competition.
Being number one was on everybody’ mind, but there could only be one winner in the men and women’s triathlon.
Some people chose to either bike/swim or run, but Nicole Brown and Tommy Nettleton chose to compete in all three contests. The both of them were successful in all three contests and finished first overall in the triathlon. Brown was not available for comment, but Nettleton stayed around as people were snapping pictures of him with his trophy in hand and congratulating him on the win.
“I have been doing them for 25 years or so,” Nettleton said. “I try to stay in the same shape. I usually bike, swim and run three times a week. I pretty much have a formula that I stick with each time one of these events come around.”
Nettleton mentioned this year’s event is slightly different compared to the events he has been a part of in the past.
“I like the scenery around here,” Nettleton said. “The Chamber of Commerce does a great job putting this event together for the community. That’s basically why I chose to be in Maysville.”
Nettleton already put his name in the hat for next year’s competition. He wants to keep doing it until his body says “no more.”
“This is a go-to race for me because how nice the people are, the town itself,” Nettleton said. “I like small towns, plus the bike course is challenging. You have to be on top of it, if you don’t want to wreck.”
Race director Mark Day was happy for the turnout despite how windy and cool it was in downtown Maysville. People from Tennessee, Florida, South and North Carolina came to norhtern Kentucky to be a part of the event. Day has been a part of the event since the beginning of its tenure.
“We have great volunteers each year,” Day said. “We have over a 100 volunteers each year. It’s just great how the people in Maysville come together for one day and do great things.”
