Local leaders say the small amount of rain expected this week will not be enough to mitigate the dry conditions in the region.
A seasonal burn ban went into effect at the beginning of October, prohibiting burning between 6 am and 6 pm.
Rowan County Judge Executive Harry Clark issued a complete burn ban on Monday. He says even a small backyard fire could be devastating and residents should refrain from all outdoor burning until the ban is lifted.
Individuals who start fires, even accidentally, can be held responsible for any damages.
