Kentucky Supreme Court Chief Justice John Minton appeared before members of the House Standing Committee on Appropriations and Revenue to propose a $10,000 raise for all full-time judicial branch employees.

An increase in wages across the country could impact local municipalities.

The Kentucky League of Cities and Department of local government recently recommended a 7-percent cost of living wage increase for city and county employees.

Morehead Mayor Laura White Brown says that’s the highest recommendation in recent memory, but it currently isn’t possible.

White-Brown says small business in the region are also struggling to match wages with those working in corporate and government organizations, making it difficult for them to remain open.
