The father of former Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes has lost an appeal in a case linked to her 2014 U.S. Senate campaign.
Jerry Lundergan was a one-time VIP in Democratic circles, a close ally of the Clintons who headed up the Kentucky Democratic Party. But now he faces at least 21 months behind bars and a six-figure fine after a judge denied his appeal in a campaign finance case.
Lundergan and an associate were convicted of illegally funneling more than $200,000 into daughter Alison's failed 2014 bid to unseat Sen. Mitch McConnell.
Attorneys argued Lundergan circumvented campaign finance laws and caused false filings to be submitted to the Federal Election Commission.
Monday's decision affirms a lower district court ruling, keeping Lundergan's original sentence intact.
