'Totally Ignoring Any Of The Guidance.' Concerns Raised At So. Central Kentucky Schools

It's been a little over a week since fall sports were given the green light to start their official seasons, but some school programs are already in danger of being shut down for not observing COVID-19 safety rules.

"They are totally ignoring any of the guidance," Kentucky High School Athletics Association Commissioner Julian Tackett told the group's Board of Control Wednesday. "We have more than one report about a couple of schools in South Central Kentucky that are not requiring masks. Matter of fact, their AD (athletics director) is greeting teams without a mask on. There's just an... ambivalence, or a total neglect, of the fact that there's even a problem."

The commissioner said the systems could receive a letter from the KHSAA asking cease stop all competition. He also noted some schools are allowing too many fans in the stands.

The association voted in August to allow fall sports, including football, to proceed as scheduled - a decision the governor expressed serious concern about but ultimately allowed to continue.
