Governor Matt Bevin’s general counsel has announced his office is hiring a fourth attorney in response to a growing case load.

Bevin General Counsel Steve Pitt says the office is bringing Lexington native Brett Nolan on board to help handle a “heavy litigation and appellate load,” as the state defends anti-abortion and right-to-work legislation, the administration’s proposed Medicaid changes, and numerous other suits.

Nolan is a graduate of the University of Kentucky who worked for the law firm Dinsmore and Shohl before clerking for a federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump.

Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear, who is running to unseat Bevin, has launched a series of legal challenges to the first term Republican governor’s administration and laws passed by the GOP-led state legislature.
