Paul: Health Vote Delay Could Cost Conservative Support
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says time is not on the side of the current GOP healthcare bill as written.
Appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation Sunday, the Bowling Green legislator predicted the delay in Senate action on the measure could peel off more conservative votes.
"I think the longer the bill's out there, the more conservative Republicans are going to discover that it's not repeal. And the more... everybody's going to discover that it keeps the fundamental flaw of Obamacare," the senator said.
McConnell is pressing pause on the bill while Arizona Senator John McCain recuperates from surgery. With Paul and moderate Susan Collins opposed to opening debate on the revised bill, Senate leaders can’t afford any further defections while the measure is shelved.
A Congressional Budget Office score is expected in the near future.
