1993 OVC Champion Baseball Team celebrates 25-Year Reunion

WYMT

Morehead State baseball is riding an all-time high in success with OVC Tournament titles in 2015 and 2018. Back in 1993, there was another pretty solid team on the diamond at Allen Field, and they won the OVC Tournament title too.

This weekend, that group will be back for Homecoming and celebrate the 25-year anniversary of claiming their league title rings.

Finishing at 31-19 under head coach Dr. Frank Spaniol, the team boasted two Major League Draft picks and two more who ended up being drafted later in their careers. They defeated rival Eastern Kentucky to win the tournament title.

Outfielder Jay Bradford was named First-Team All-OVC, having a breakout year with 17 doubles, 13 home runs and 22 stolen bases. Donny Hackworth (first base), Brad Allison (catcher), Sean Hogan (pitcher) and Jason Chandler (pitcher) were tabbed Second-Team All-OVC. Chandler went on to be named the OVC Tournament Most Valuable Player. Allison, Bradford, Chandler and Jay Sorg (infield) were on the All-Tournament Team. Sorg later came back to his alma mater and served as head coach from 2008-12.

Eleven members of that team still appear in the top-10 of various career all-time stats lists at MSU.
