Due to excessive rain, the closure and paving Saturday of two I-64 access ramps at the US 60 interchange (Exit 181) at Coalton in Boyd County has been rescheduled for Monday, June 10.
Beginning about 7 a.m. Monday, contractors will pave the circular ramps – the I-64 westbound off ramp to US 60, and the I-64 eastbound on ramp from US 60. Each access ramp will be closed for several hours for the work, up until about 7 p.m. Electronic message boards will be used to notify traffic of closures. Motorists may use the following detours:
--Westbound I-64 traffic needing access to US 60 at Coalton may use Exit 185 to KY 180 to reroute to US 60 at Cannonsburg; or traffic may continue west past Exit 181 and turn around at Exit 179 via the KY 67-Industrial Parkway interchange.
--Traffic on US 60 at Coalton or coming out of Carter County needing access to I-64 east toward Huntington should continue on US 60 to Cannonsburg and take KY 180 to the Exit 185 interchange.
The work is part of an ongoing $2.6 million state highway improvement project to resurface 5 miles of I-64 in Boyd County from mile markers 180 to 185 between the US 60-Coalton and KY 180-Cannonsburg exits. Interstate traffic is currently restricted to one lane both eastbound and westbound in that area, and the speed limit has been reduced.
Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow-down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
