The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded improvement projects totaling almost $3.4 million for eight bridges Bath, Fleming, Carter, Boyd and Greenup counties.
Work on the projects will start soon, and will require temporary closures of the structures to expedite the projects and move Kentucky forward in its goal to rehab, repair or replace 1,000 bridges in six years.
The following Bridging Kentucky projects were awarded in February and March:
BATH COUNTY
-KY 1106 bridge over Flat Creek near Bethel; rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 45 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs.
FLEMING COUNTY
-KY 111 over Allison Creek between Poplar Plains and KY 32 (mile marker 11.9); rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 30 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs.
-KY 367 over Johnson Creek just west of Baptist Lane at Nepton (mile marker 1); rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 60 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs.

CARTER COUNTY
-KY 182 over Sinking Creek east of Grahn (mile marker 2.2); rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 30 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to The Walker Company of Kentucky Inc. under a $394,565.25 Transportation Cabinet contract.
BOYD COUNTY
-KY 854 bridge over Garner Creek a half mile west of the KY 3 intersection (mile marker 7); rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 45 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to Hinkle Construction Services LLC under a $296,547 Transportation Cabinet contract.
GREENUP COUNTY
-Musketeer Lane (County Road 1001) over Slash Branch; replacement; bridge closure of up to 60 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs.
-Williams Avenue (County Road 5404) over Pond Run; rehab/superstructure replacement; bridge closure of up to 60 calendar days once work begins. Project awarded to M&M Services Co., Inc., under a $2,688,780.76 Transportation Cabinet contract for six bridge rehabs.
State highway engineers will work with contractors on work schedules, bridge closure dates, and detours – all of which will be announced prior to construction.
All work is being done under low-bid Transportation Cabinet contracts through the state's Bridging Kentucky Program. The program is a commitment to improve safety and soundness of the Commonwealth's bridges by rehabilitating, repairing, or replacing more than 1,000 critical structures in all 120 Kentucky counties over the next six years.
The program will open previously closed structures, improve bridge lifespans and ensure appropriate weight capacities are met, and improve access and mobility for all Kentuckians.
