Work Begins on KY 519 Project in Rowan County

Contractors have begun work on a $10 million highway improvement project along KY 519 (West Liberty-Morehead Road) in Rowan County.

The project includes construction of a new KY 519 with wider travel lanes and shoulders, upgraded pavement and new bridges generally along and to either side of the existing highway between KY 801 near Cave Run Lake north two miles to the bottom of Clack Mountain where it ties in with a previous improvement project.

Earlier this month, contractors began removing trees and will continue clearing the right of way through March. Motorists should watch for occasional flagged traffic, and reduced speeds through work zones.

Culvert, bridge work and roadway excavation will take place through spring, with the first paving and major traffic changes expected by late summer. Construction will continue throughout the year. Project completion is expected by the end of 2017.

Work is being done by The Walker Company of Kentucky, Inc., under a $10,254,879.28 low-bid contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
