(Editor's note: The following is a press release provided by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet)
As of 2:30 PM … previous closure and detour for I-64 westbound traffic in Carter County at 178 MM has ceased. One lane, the left lane, is open to traffic while the right will remain closed at 178 MM west of the Industrial Parkway for several more hours for cleanup. Motorists are advised to drive with caution through the area. Detour on US 60 through Grayson has ceased.
Westbound I-64 remains closed at the 178 mile marker in Carter County – about 12 miles west of the Kentucky-West Virginia state line. Law enforcement continues to reconstruct the crash and wrecker crews are on scene. It’s estimated both lanes of westbound I-64 will remain closed for another 2 to 3 hours.
A detour has been established at Exit 181 using US 60 west through Grayson to return to I-64 at the 172 mile marker, but motorists should expect heavy traffic and delays along that route. Local travelers headed west toward Grayson or Lexington from Ashland or from the Industrial Parkway today should seek alternate routes.
