Ohio River Bridge Tolls Could Be Higher Than Expected

MarCo Depot

Tolls for the Ohio River Bridges Project will likely be higher than reported because of administrative fees. The tolls are necessary to pay for two new bridges over the Ohio River and a reworked Spaghetti Junction. Plans are for the tolls to be placed on both new bridges and the Kennedy Bridge.

State officials are expected to approve toll rates next week. The fees are expected to start at one dollar for frequent car commuters using an electronic payment system. They will go up for larger vehicles and for those traveling from out-of-town. Anyone without an electronic payment device will be captured on video and mailed a bill.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Chuck Wolfe says that will rack up additional costs.

“The rates will be higher for video because it will be more expensive to do it that way. Every toll transaction has a cost associated with it.” --Chuck Wolfe

Those additional fees have not yet been set. Bi-state officials are in the process of searching for a contractor who would determine the extra administrative costs.
