MSU begins Spring Semester

Morehead State University

Classes at Morehead State University began Wednesday, but many in the campus community are concerned about the rising number of covid positive cases across the commonwealth.

In Rowan County, nearly 200 new cases have been reported this week, and the state positivity rate was 27-point-39-percent at mid-week.

During M-S-U Convocation on Wednesday, President dr. Jay Morgan stopped short of mandating vaccines.

University officials are cautiously optimistic about preliminary enrollment and retention numbers for the Spring semester.

Like most higher education institutions, MSU did see a slight drop in both categories in recent semesters, a change which has been directly attributed to the pandemic.

President Morgan asked faculty and staff to keep a close eye on students to help them have a successful spring semester.

Morgan said after 2 years of Covid, enrollment and retention numbers had declined.  He hopes preliminary numbers indicating stabilization will hold through in the spring semester.
