MSPR to Broadcast Classic Radio Drama "The War Of The Worlds" on Oct. 31

On this special edition of The Golden Age of Radio, a presentation of Mercury Theater on the Air’s original radio production of “The War of the Worlds” by H.G. Wells.

The program airs at 3:00pm on Sunday, October 31.

Starring Orson Welles, the Mercury Theatre on the Air was an hour-long dramatic radio series which began in the summer of 1938 on the CBS Radio Network. 

On the evening of October 30, 1938, radio listeners across the United States heard a startling report of mysterious creatures and terrifying war machines moving toward New York City. 

Paul Hitchcock earned his Masters in Communications from Morehead State University and Bachelors in Radio-TV/Psychology from Georgetown College. A veteran broadcaster for more than 40 years and an avid fan of blues, jazz and American roots music. Hitchcock has been with WMKY since 1986 and was named General Manager in 2003. He currently hosts "Muddy Bottom Blues" (Fri., 8pm-9pm), "Nothin' But The Blues" (Sat., 8pm-12am), "Sunday Night Jazz Showcase" and "Live From The Jazz Lounge" (Sun., 8pm-9pm) and "The Golden Age of Radio" (Sun., 2pm-3pm). He also serves as producer for "A Time For Tales" and "The Reader's Notebook."
