First Lady Britainy Beshear recently announced an award supporting domestic violence victim services in Kentucky. The money will go to multiple victim services organizations across the Commonwealth.

First Lady Beshear said the award will strengthen the state in the fight against domestic violence.

“Today we are awarding more than $2.1 million to 29 organizations across the Commonwealth that support victim services. This funding allows us to support law enforcement, victim services, and state and local courts to combat violent crimes and seek justice for victims,” said Beshear.

In Rowan County, one of the 29 agencies receiving funding includes Domestic Violence Emergency Services of Gateway, or DOVES, which will be awarded almost $60,000. DOVES is a non-profit organization that provides safe shelter and free services to domestic violence victims in Morehead and the surrounding area.

Over $100,000 will also be given to ZeroV, a statewide coalition dedicated to creating safe lives and futures for survivors. ZeroV offers shelter, legal services, and other resources victims of violence can utilize. Anyone can receive help by visiting their website, zerov.org, or by calling 800-799-SAFE.

According to officials more than 45% of women and 35% of men in Kentucky experience some form of physical violence or sexual assault in their lifetimes. First Lady Beshear said the victims are more than just a statistic.

“These are not just numbers; they are our neighbors and our friends. These are men, women, and children from every community in our state. It takes a lot of bravery and support for survivors to overcome these types of experiences. I am proud that together Kentuckians are standing ready to help. We will not stop fighting and working until every Kentuckian is safe from domestic violence,” said Beshear.

The Beshear-Coleman administration has awarded more than $149 million in grant funding to victim service agencies across the Commonwealth.

Kentucky's domestic violence programs and shelters are open all hours and are safe for survivors and their families to receive emergency shelter and supportive services.
