Kentucky health officials look ahead to the next year of the Healthy Kentucky Home initiative

The Healthy Kentucky Home initiative has officially been in place for a full year and officials in the Commonwealth are looking back at the progress that has been made in the state. They also aim to set new goals to continue to improve the health of Kentuckians.

Dr. Steven Stack is the Secretary for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. He said healthy lifestyles start at the community level and with the small choices people make every day.

“Health isn’t just found in clinics and hospitals. It’s built where we live, where we work, where we worship. At the heart of that work are hundreds of public health programs and resources designed to improve the overall health and wellness of the communities they serve,” he said.

Stack added in the coming year, officials will shift the focus of their secondary themes to another important facet of health.

“The complementary theme this year won’t be diseases, like we talked about cardiovascular disease and about diabetes and other conditions last year,” said Stack. “This year, each month we’re going to focus on individuals and concrete resources you can use to help yourself should you find yourself in need.”

Additionally, officials with the initiative want to remind Kentuckians of its three original goals. They say people should get 30 minutes of exercise three times a week, eat two servings of fruits or vegetables every day, and stay socially connected.
