The Kentucky State Police have announced the expansion of guaranteed post assignments for troopers who graduate from Cadet Class 107, which is scheduled to begin in May 2026. The expansion includes post assignments that cover the Lexington and Louisville metropolitan areas.
This news is the latest of many efforts by KSP to bolster their recruitment efforts. Governor Andy Beshear said the law enforcement agency is one of the state’s longest standing and most important institutions.
“The Kentucky State Police serve all 120 Kentucky counties and touches every corner of our Commonwealth,” said Beshear. “Troopers who know the community they serve are essential to building a new safer Kentucky home, and we encourage interested individuals to apply.”
The program for potential troopers consists of rigorous training including hours of classroom instruction and field experience. Beshear said this is necessary to give trainees all the appropriate skills they need to serve.
“What I’d say is, getting through that program is not easy, but it makes sure that you are well-trained and as safe as you can be on the job on day one,” he said.
Newly hired troopers from cadet class 107 will have a starting salary of almost $70,000 and have many benefits such as hybrid-retirement and sick leave buyback options.
